Solution 1: Check your service info is correct

  • First, it is recommended to restart your computer and later reopen the QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Now, you need to check your account info, it should be up to date and accurate. If your account info is not updated, then update it immediately, and next try to download the latest payroll tax table update.

Solution 2: Register and update your QuickBooks Desktop

It is necessary to update with the security and software enhancements. Below are the steps on how to check if your software is registered.

  • First, you need to start your QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Click on the F2 key on your keyboard to show the Product Information window.

Steps to resort the list

If you have saved your Item List or Chart of Accounts in numbered form, then QuickBooks re-sorts the list on the basis of first three digits. To make sure to sort them in order, you can add 1 to 3-digit number prefixed to each item or account number.

  • First go to the  Lists menu, click on list that you want to re-sort.
  • Click on the Include Inactive checkbox. If it is already grayed out, then it means there is  no inactive names.
  • Next, click on the View menu, and choose the Re-sort Lists.
  • Click on OK.
  • Now, close and reopen your company file.

Solution 7: Rename the CPS folder

  • On your keyboard, press and hold the Windows key + E, nad open the file explorer.
  • Now, go to the left menu, click on This PC.
  • Next, click on the Local Disk C and open the folder Program Files (x86), and next open the Intuit folder.  if you’re unable to see Program Files (x86), then open the Program Files folder
  • Go to the QuickBooks Desktop folder and open it that matches the version you’re using.
  • Now, click on Components, and next go to the Payroll folder.
  • Give a right-click on the CPS folder, and next, click on Rename. Insert CPSOLD, and hit the Enter key to rename it.
  • If you want to create new CPS folder, then launch QuickBooks Desktop. And download the latest update of payroll tax table.

Solution 8: Perform a clean install in selective startup

A clean install may be required at selective startup because this mode enables you to start Windows only with select objects running on your computer.

  • First prepare your data, to do this create a backup of your company file and make a note of QuickBooks Desktop product and license info.
  • Next, you need to start your computer in Selective startup mode
    • To open the Run command press and hold Windows+R on your keyboard.
    • On the Run Box, insert msconfig, and click on OK.
    • Go to the General tab, click on Selective startup and Load system services.
    • Next, click on the Services tab, then click on the Hide all Microsoft Services.
    • Click on Disable all.
    • Now, you have to uncheck the Hide all Microsoft services checkbox.
    • Be sure that you have selected Windows Installer checkbox from the list of services. If it is not selected, click on the checkbox.
    • Click on OK.
    • Go to the System Configuration window, click on Restart.
  • Next, install or uninstall the QuickBooks.
  • Now, Switch back to Normal startup mode, When QuickBooks is re-installed, then need to restore manually your computer to its normal configuration, to do this follow the below steps:
    • To open the Run command press and hold Windows+R on your keyboard.
    • On the Run Box, insert msconfig, and click on OK.
    • Go to the General tab, click on Normal startup.
    • Click on OK.
    • Click on the System Configuration window, click on Restart.
