Things to remember

  • log in as an administrator.
  • Make sure you have a 32-bit version of internet explorer because 64-bit of internet explorer in Windows 7 does not support QuickBooks online.

Basic installation problems

1.Microsoft administrator verification

You need to have Administrator access to Windows. When implied, just enter the Administrator password, then select OK.

2. Microsoft security warning dialogue

During the process of installing Active x control, you will get a Microsoft security warning.

This is a standard warning given by Microsoft when u redirected to a secure page. Do not select no or else the installation will be stopped.

3. Internet information bar

After installing Internet Explorer, the Microsoft Information Security Bar is turned On automatically. Then a message will be aroused to select the Information Bar to install ActiveX control for any website, including QuickBooks Online.

  • Select run as administrator by right click on the Internet Explorer icon.
  • If asked, choose to Allow this operation.
  • Log back into QuickBooks Online account.
  • Export your data from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks desktop, then install ActiveX control.

4. If you did not see the Internet Information Bar

If the Information Bar is switched off you will not be able to see it. enable this feature to successfully install ActiveX control:

  • To enable information bar press right click on the internet explorer icon and select run as administrator.
  • If prompted, select Allow this operation.
  • Choose the internet options from the tools at the top In Internet Explorer, Note: If you can’t see Tools, press Alt.
  • Go to the security tab and then select the custom level.
  • Go to the ActiveX controls and plug-ins section.
  • Change Download Signed Active X Controls to prompt.
  • Close and re-open Internet Explorer, then log back into your QuickBooks Online account.
  • Export your data from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks desktop, then install ActiveX control.
  • Select install after the security warning comes up.

5. Windows access rights

When you run as an Administrator it allows you to install and remove programs, change computer configurations, and access all programs and files on the computer. but, if you are a user in a corporate environment, administrative privileges may not let you install ActiveX controls.

To find out if you have administrative authority on your computer, check windows administration rights. If you don’t have administrator access rights:

  • Ask your system administrator to log in to your computer as a user with Administrator user rights.
  • Check if your administrator login to QuickBooks Online, then install Active X control.

If you have done all of the above steps correctly but still can’t install ActiveX control, review the settings on your Internet Explorer. Maybe you have been set up not to restrict downloads on the computer.

6. Check your security settings in Internet Explorer on your computer

  • In Internet Explorer, select Tools, then choose Internet Options to check your security settings.
    Note: If you can’t see Tools, press Alt.
  • Go to the Security tab, then select the Custom level.
  • Under ActiveX control and plug-ins:
    • implement Allow Scriptlets.
    • implement Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls.
    • implement Binary and script behaviors.
    • Set up Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt.
    • Set up Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Prompt.
    • Disable Initialize and script Active X controls not marked as safe for scripting.
    • implement Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins.
    • implement Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting.
  • Select OK.
  • Go to the Advanced tab, then move to the Security section. Confirm you do not have to save encrypted pages to disk is unchecked.
  • select OK, then close and again reopen Internet Explorer.
  • Export your data from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks desktop, then install ActiveX control.

7. Check if the system has the ability to install and run ActiveX controls

  • Go to www.pcpitstop.com.

Manually install ActiveX

If you have tried all the basic troubleshooting steps above but you still can’t install ActiveX control, download ActiveX Installation Tool.

Important: Using the ActiveX Installation Tool should be your last option. If you use this tool, you will need to use it each time we update ActiveX control.

If you used the tool before, you’ll get a message that says you have a newer version of ActiveX. This message is inaccurate. You need to uninstall the older version before you can use the ActiveX Installer Tool.

Change ActiveX control setting

  • Open internet explorer select tools button then select internet options.
  • Go to the Security tab select the custom level.
  • Under ActiveXpluginug in settings select one of the following options-
    • Enable automatic prompting for ActiveX control by selecting it.
    • Enable binary and script behaviors by selecting them.
    • Enable display video and animation om a webpage that does not use the external media player.
    • Allow ActiveX control to download signed ActiveX control or prompt if you want to be notified by this every time.
    • Allow internet explorer to run ActiveX control and plugins.
    • Allow Internet Explorer to Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting by selecting Enable button
  •   Select ok twice.
