QuickBooks Error 15271: Maintenance Releases & Update Error

This error basically occurs while updating/installing a program e.g. QuickBooks Pro/Payroll/Desktop is running. You get one of the following error:

  • Error 15271: Payroll update unsuccessful. A file cannot be justified.
  • Error 15271: The update had been incomplete. The file can’t be validated.

Some cases in which you might encounter Error 15271:

  • The payroll update (or the update) did not complete successfully. The file cannot be validated.
  • While updating any version of QuickBooks and getting error 15271 under essentials
  • Corrupt download or incomplete installation of QuickBooks Pro software.
  • Error 15271 keeps appearing on Maintenance Releases whenever you try to update QB.

So basically this error gets displayed when a file cannot be endorsed. This type of error commonly received while doing payroll updates and you can also receive this type of error while doing the QuickBooks update.

How to Fix QuickBooks Error 15271

So many times, this type of error can be resolved by turning off the UAC in Windows, then update your software again. To resolve this, you need to turn off the User Account Control(UAC) in Windows. Please follow the steps below:

For Windows Vista

  • Choose the Windows Logo.
  • Then choose the Control Panel.
  • Type UAC in the search box and press Enter.
  • Click the Turn User Account Control(UACon or off
  • Click to clear the Use User Account Control (UAC)check box to turn off the UAC.
  • Then click OK.
  • Reboot your computer.

For Windows 7 & 8, 10

  • Go to the Control Panel.
    In Windows 7: Choose Start > Control Panel.
    Windows 8: From the Start menu type Control Panel, then click Control Panel.
  • In the search box, enter UAC.
  • Click Change User Account Control settings.
  • To turn off the UAC: Move the slider to Never notify.
  • Click OK. If you are prompted for the Admin password or confirmation, enter the password or provide confirmation. To make the change, restart your computer.
  • To turn on the UAC: Move the slider to when you want to be notified.
  • Click OK.

If you get the same result, please restart your QB. If the QuickBooks Update Service message window appears, click Install Later, and then reset your QB release update:

  • At the top menu, click Help.
  • Choose Update QuickBooks.
  • After that, click Update Now.
  • Then check the box next to Reset Update, and click Get Updates.
  • When the “Update Complete” message appears, close and reopen
  • If you get the message to install the update, click Install Now.
  • When the installation is complete, restart your computer.
