Error 1920: QuickBooks Database Manager Service failed to start. “Error Code Error 1920” is an issue that generally includes a variety of the fault, including why it occurred, which system component or application malfunction, along with some other information. The numeric code in the name of the problem usually contains data that can be corrupted by the manufacturer of the component or application. Problems with using this code can occur in many different places within the system, so even though its name may contain some details, it is difficult to pinpoint the cause of the problem without specific technical knowledge or appropriate software for the user. When installing either the QuickBooks Desktop or a program update and this type of error is displayed, the installation rolls back and exits. The error arises because the QuickBooks Database Manager scans installed hard drives for company files in order to create a connection to those files. If you already have other installed Intuit apps on your computer, you only need to uninstall or rename the QuickBooks version folder located in the Intuit folder: C:\Program Data\Intuit.

Step 3: Install QuickBooks Desktop

3: Reinstall QuickBooks Database Server Manager

Steps to Install QuickBooks Database Server Manager 

Note: Database Server Manager is usually used to run multi-user access in QuickBooks desktop. This server manager helps the users to work with the same company file at the same time. 

Step 1: Download and Install Database Server Manager
  • First, you have to download and install the Database Server Manager on the server computer. The server computer is the computer where you host the company files.
  • Note: If you are a professional accountant, bookkeeper, or host more than one version of QuickBooks Desktop on your network, then it is advised to install them in order. For this, you have to install the oldest version first and the most recent version at the end.
  • Before proceeding to the steps, terminate all the open programs on your server device, also QuickBooks.
  • Open the downloaded file ‘Setup_QuickBooks.exe’ file and install it. 
  • Now, you need to process all the on-screen instructions.
  • Here, QuickBooks will advise you to select an install type, choose of any of ‘Custom’ or ‘Network Options’. And later, go to Next. make sure not to choose Express.
  • Click on the preferred option for your network setup and click on Next. Both of the options will install the Database Server Manager. In case, you have already installed QuickBooks Desktop on your computer, then this will not overwrite any of your existing company file or data.
  • If you desire to have both QuickBooks Desktop and Database Server Manager on your server computer, then we will advise you to click on I’ll be using as well as storing QuickBooks Desktop on this device.
  • If you want only Database Server Manager on your server computer, then click on I will NOT be using QuickBooks Desktop
  • Now, go with the onscreen instructions. When you are all set, click on Install. Windows might ask you for permission.

Note: It is important to know that QuickBooks generates a separate version of Windows user for every version of Database Server Manager. For example, Data Server Manager 2019 will be created as a separate version with the name QBDataServiceUser29.

Allow users to access desired folders that contain your company files. Whenever you set your system-level permissions, you can see these users.

Step 2: Set your firewall permissions

You have to check your antivirus and firewall permissions. To run this program you need to make sure that you have been given the necessary permissions to run on your computer.

Step 3: Update-Database Server Manager
