Solution 1: Remove special character from your company file

Search for the company file you want to rename.
Now right-click the file name and select Rename.
Enter the new filename and press enter.

Solution 2: Avoid overwriting an existing file when you restore your company backup

Save your file in standard location when QuickBooks asks where you want to save your file.
If the file name is same as another file in this folder you will see a message on your screen i.e The file name exists. Would you like to overwrite this file?
Click No.
Now change the file name.

Solution 3: Use the same or latest version of Quickbooks when you restoring your backup file.

Use the Quickbooks File Manager to know the version of the backup.
You can restore a backup to the latest version of Quickbooks but can not to an older version
For Example-

You can restore a backup from Quickbooks 2009 in Quickbooks 2011.
You can not restore a backup from Quickbooks 2011 to 2009.

Back up the QuickBooks company file

Your backup file contains your company data up to the date the backup was made. Make sure you restore the most recent file.

Follow these steps to restore a local backup from a CD, USB flash drive, local hard drive, network folder, or other media. If you backed up your QuickBooks company file using the service provided by QuickBooks Online Backup, you must restore it through that same service.
