      Quickbooks error H202 is an error correlated with QuickBooks in multi-user operating mode.

      Error H202 occurs when the user tries to access a QuickBooks company file which is on another computer and the copy of QuickBooks cannot reach the server on that computer. Many users have reported that while trying to open a QuickBooks file in the multiuser mode they get this error.

      Causes of this error:

        • Quickbooks desktop is trying to set up a connection to the company file but cannot communicate with the server due to one of the following reasons-
          • Incorrect hosting configuration settings.
          • A system firewall is blocking.
          • Damaged or incorrect DNS settings.
          • Quickbooks is unable to get the IP address of the host system.
        • Some internal QuickBooks services like QuickBooksDBXX or QBCFMonitor are not running yet.
        • QuickBooks Database Server Manager is damaged and not working.

      Method 1: Test network connectivity

      • Turn off hosting on all workstations.
      • Enter the server name from your workstation.
      • Enter server name and press enter key.

      If you see a slow reply or a packet loss then your network needs to be repaired. For that move to Method 2.

      Method 2: use network diagnostic tool

      • Download the diagnostic tool.
      • Scan the folder that has the data file.
      • Note down the IP addresses number and network interfaces.
      • In case the firewall status section has an open ports button, click the button to enable those ports for QuickBooks.
      • Test the data file connectivity.
      • Now try to open your company data file.

      If the error is still there try to add the QuickBooks port to the list of exceptions in the windows firewall.

      Method 3: Add your server to the windows host file

      • Open the windows host file on your computer where the error appears.
        • (C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc\) is using Notepad.
        • Then if you need, open the Notepad as Admin.
      • Place the insertion point after the last IP address and type in the server’s IP address.
      • Press the Tab key once, and type in the server name.
      • Select Save from the file menu and click on exit.

      Method 4: create a new folder for your company file

      • Go to the hosting computer and create anew folder.
      • Share the folder and set up the folder and windows access permissions to share the company file.
      • Now copy the QuickBooks database file to a new folder.
      • Open the company file in multi-user mode again.

      • Open QuickBooks
      • Ress F2 to open the product information window.
      • Below local server information, in the lower left, select hosting to reflect ‘local files only’
      • Make sure that no other client system is trying to host the same company file.

      Method 6: Restart the QuickBooks database server manager.

      • Sart windows run dialog and type services.msc. Click ok
      • Right-click on desktop 19(2009), QuickBooks desktop 18(2008) or QuickBooks desktop17(2007) and select stop.
      • Right-click on QuickBooks and select start.
      • Then close the window.
      • Show extensions for received file types.
      • Right-click on the windows start button and select explore then select tools then click on folder options. 
      • Click on the View tab and clear hide extensions for the known file types box.
      • Again click on the view tab and select show hidden files and folders, clear the ‘hide protected operating system files’ box.
      • Click yes on the warning and ok.
      • Close windows explorer.

      Method 7: Delete and Recreate the.ND file

      • Go to the windows search, type  .ND and click on enter.
      • On the results window, right-click on the  .ND file and select Delete.
      • Select confirm delete when prompted.
      • select on the windows start button.
      • Select all programs then click on QuickBooks then select the QuickBooks database, server manager.
      • Select the scan folder tab.
      • Click on the add folder button and browse to the company file.
      • Select the company file and click the ok button. The path to the company file is in the folders with the QuickBooks company fils field.
      • Select san to start the process.
      • After the scan is complete, select Close.
